Delete your Brewlett account

Your archive belongs to your family, which means you can take it back out again. This page explains how to delete your account, exactly what is removed, and what happens to stories other people in your family recorded.

Delete it yourself, from the app

This is the fastest route and it takes effect immediately. In the Brewlett app on Android or iOS, or on the web:

  • Open Settings from the menu.
  • Scroll to Danger zone.
  • Optionally choose Export my data first, which downloads a copy of your vault as a file you keep.
  • Choose Delete account and confirm.

If you cannot sign in

Write to hello@brewlett.com from the email address on the account and ask us to delete it. A person will read your message and reply. We may need to confirm you own the address before we erase anything, because deletion cannot be undone.

What gets deleted

What happens depends on whether you own the family vault, because a vault is shared with the people you invited.

  • If you own the family vault - the entire vault is permanently deleted for everyone in it: every storyteller profile, memory, recording, transcript, translation, recipe, tale, dream, biography, book, and uploaded photo, along with your login itself.
  • If you were invited into someone else's vault - your login and your membership are deleted. The stories you recorded stay in that family's archive and are reassigned to the vault owner, so the family does not lose the recordings you made for them.

Either way, your login is removed and you will not be able to sign in again. If you want a copy of anything, export it before you delete.

How long it takes

Deletion from our active systems happens immediately. Residual copies in encrypted backups are purged on our normal backup rotation. Some records we are legally required to keep, such as invoices and payment references needed for tax and accounting, are retained for the period the law requires and are not used for anything else.

Subscriptions

Deleting your account does not by itself cancel a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play, because those are billed by Apple and Google rather than by us. Cancel it in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings so you are not charged again. If you subscribed directly through Brewlett, deleting the account ends the subscription.

Just want to delete one story?

You do not have to delete everything. Any individual memory, recipe, tale, or dream can be deleted on its own from inside the app, and a storyteller profile can be archived so their saved stories are kept but no new ones are recorded.
